It’s hard enough to win both ends of a double header at any level of baseball.
It’s even harder to win both games but shutting the other team out at the pro level.
On May 7, 2011, Drew Pomeranz tossed five shutout innings for the Kinston Indians with three walks and eight strikeout, followed by a perfect inning and two strikeouts each from Toru Murata and Preston Guilmet to seal a 3-0 win over the Potomac Nationals in Game 1 of their double header.
Bo Greenwell and Chase Burnette supplied the offense with a homer each.
Clayton Cook fired five shutout innings in game two to match Pomeranz’s game one performance with six strikeouts and four hits. Francisco Jimenez allowed a run in an inning and Travis Turek sturk out two and allowed two hits in the seventh inning to wrap it up.
Justin Toole had an RBI single in the fifth inning to give the K-Tribe a 1-0 lead that would have been enough but the Nationals walked Jason Smit and Doug PIckens with the bases loaded in the sixth and Daniel DeGeorge singled in a pair of runs to give them some breathing room to complete a double-header shutout sweep.
