Several former Indians continued to remain locked in at the plate on Monday. The IBI’s Daniel Sherriff takes you Around the Farm.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE (LVBP)

Navegantes de Magallanes 7, Tigres de Aragua 2

FORMER INDIAN

Ezequiel Carrera (RF, Navegantes de Magallanes) – 0-4, 1 BB, 1 SO – It just wasn’t Carrera’s day at the plate. His only highlight of the day was working a walk in the second inning to load the bases to try and set up more scoring opportunities for Navegantes de Magallanes in a four-run second frame. Nothing came of it but Carrera played his part in keeping the line moving.

Cardenales de Lara 1, Leones del Caracas 9

FORMER INDIAN

Yonathan Mendoza (LF, Cardenales de Lara) – 2-4, 1 2B, 1 R – Cardenales Lara didn’t have much offense on Monday but Mendoza kept at it. He did all he could to jumpstart the offense with a double in the first inning and came around to score his team’s only run on a RBI-single by Yordanys Linares.

Carlos Rivero (3B, Cardenales de Lara) – 0-3, 1 BB – Rivero worked a leadoff walk in the fourth inning to try and get something going after Cardenales de Lara fell behind 5-1 but got stranded on third base due to an inning-ending double play.

Caribes de Anzoategui 7, Bravos de Margarita 1

CURRENT INDIAN

Andruw Monasterio (2B, Caribes de Anzoategui) – 1-1, 1 BB – Shortly after getting a base hit in the fourth inning the second baseman exited the game in the bottom half. Christhian Pedroza took over at second base.

FORMER INDIAN

Niuman Romero (3B, Caribes de Anzoategui) – 2-6, 1 SO – Romero is another former Indian whom just keeps hitting right now. He singled in the first inning to set up runners at first and second with no outs and Caribes de Anzoategui ended up bringing a run home later in the frame because of it.

DOMINICAN LEAGUE (LIDOM)

Aguilas Cibaenas 7, Gigantes del Cibao 3

FORMER INDIANS

Melky Cabrera (LF, Aguilas Cibaenas) – 2-5, 1 2B 1 R – The veteran outfielder is feeling it right now. He’s swinging one of the hottest bats on his team. His double in the fourth inning helped spark a four-run frame.

Robel García (2B, Aguilas Cibaenas) – 1-4, 1 BB – The second baseman had another quiet day on Monday. García ended up killing a potential big inning in the second when he hit into an inning-ending double play.
