PUERTO RICAN LEAGUE (LBPRC)
Johnathan Rodriguez (RF, Atenienses de Manati): 0-2 – Rodriguez fell below a hit-per-game pace with this hitless outing.
Landy Pena (2B, RA12): 0-2, 1 BB, 1 K – while Pena still has only one hit on the season, he did pick up his second walk of the 2020-21 campaign on Saturday.
Hector Hernandez (SP, Indios de Mayaguez): W (2-0), 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R (both earned), 1 BB, 5 K – Hernandez gave up his first earned runs of the season, but remains perfect in terms of individual victories with two in as many starts.
COLOMBIAN LEAGUE (LPB)
Gaspar Palacio (2B, Tigres de Cartagena): 0-2, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 HBP – Palacio has walked more times this season (five) than he has gotten a hit (three).
Audy Ciriaco (3B/1B, Caimanes de Barranquilla): 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 CS – Ciriaco has a pair of recent big nights sandwiching an unimpressive Friday.
Daniel Aguilar (CF, Gigantes de Barranquilla): 2-4, 1 R, 2 BB, 2 K – Aguilar split his six plate appearances on Saturday evenly between singles, strikeouts, and walks.
VENEZUELAN LEAGUE (LVBP)
Andruw Monasterio (PH, Caribes de Anzoategui): 0-1, 1 K – Monasterio struck out looking to end the game in his first game action in three days.
Juan Apodaca (C, Tiburones de La Guaira): 1-3 – It took seven games, but Apodaca finally went a game without being plunked.
Niuman Romero (3B, Caribes de Anzoategui): 1-2, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 E – Romero reached base three times in seven innings to improve his slash line to .338/.444/.412 with a 7:13 K:BB ratio.
Henry Martinez (RP, Caribes de Anzoategui): 1 IP, 3 H, 1 R (earned), 2 K, 1 HBP – Martinez’s control issues led to his worst outing of the season so far.
Niuman Romero (starting 3B, Caribes de Anzoategui): 0-2, 1 K – Even Romero can have an off half of a night.
Carlos Rivero (3B, Cardenales de Lara): 3-4, 3 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI – Yes, that statline is from a seven-inning game. Needless to say, Rivero was the Cardenales’ offensive star of the opener of this twi-night doubleheader.
Yonathan Mendoza (LF, Cardenales de Lara): 0-1, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SF – While not as flashy as Rivero’s Game 1 performance, Mendoza was productive at the plate despite the lack of a hit.
Yonathan Mendoza (LF, Cardenales de Lara): 1-4, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 BB – Mendoza scored a pair of runs for the first time in three weeks and hit an extra-base hot for the first tome in twelve days in the nightcap. Despite those droughts, his slash line is solid at .302/.397/.491.
Carlos Rivero (3B, Cardenales de Lara): 2-4, 3 RBI, 1 K – Rivero’s pair of three-RBI games nearly doubled his season total (from 7 to 13 – nine of which have come in three-RBI games – the other coming on December 8 against the Aguilas del Zulia).
Luis Oviedo (RP, Cardenales de Lara): 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R (earned), 1 BB, 3 K – Oviedo allowed his first earned run of the season but had his best strikeout night of the Venezuelan campaign.
AGUILAS DEL ZULIA 4, NAVEGANTES DE L MAGALLANES 1 (GAME 1 – 7 INNINGS)
Ezequiel Carrera (RF, Navegantes del Magallanes): 0-2, 1 BB – After recording ten total bases in his first seven games of the season, Carrera has only amassed one more in his seven full games since.
Ezequiel Carrera (PH, Navegantes del Magallanes): 0-1 – Carrera grounded out in a seventh-inning pinch-hit appearance.
Jose Rodriguez (SP, Navegantes del Magallanes): L (2-2), 2 IP, 5 H, 3 R (2 earned), 1 K – Rodriguez’s first start of the season was also his worst performance. My guess is he stays in the bullpen the rest of the campaign.
DOMINICAN WINTER LEAGUE (LIDOM)
Melky Cabrera (starting LF, Aguilas Cibaenas): 4-6, 1 R, 1 2B, 2 RBI – Cabrera nearly got his batting average up to ,300 (.298) with this offensive explosion.
Robel Garcia (2B, Aguilas Cibaenas): 2-5, 2 R, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 K, 1 E – Garcia’s multi-hit game was his third in his last six.
Ivan Castillo (starting 2B, Leones del Escogido): 2-4, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K – Castillo did get his average up to .300 on Saturday with his fourth multi-hit effort in eleven games during the 2020-21 LIDOM season.
Edward Paredes (RP, Leones del Escogido): 0.2 IP, perfect – Paredes got the Leones out of a disastrous sixth inning (that ultimately cost them the game) with two outs in as many pitches.
Sandy Leon (C, Tigres de Licey): 0-3 – Leon only has six hits in 14 games this season, but half of them are home runs (.150 AVG, .225 ISO).
Gabriel Arias (SP, Tigres del Licey): W (2-1), 5 IP, 4 H, 1 K – After coming out of the bullpen for his first five appearances of the season, Arias dominated in his first start of the Dominican campaign.
Abraham Almonte (CF, Toros del Este): 0-4 – Almonte’s struggles in LIDOM continued on Saturday. He is now slashing .069/.229/.103 (the 160 isolated plate discipline being the result of six walks in 35 plate appearances).
MEXICAN PACIFIC LEAGUE (LMP)
Jose Guadalupe Chavez (SS, Tomateros de Culiacan): 2-4, 1 R – Cgavez has three multi-hit games in his last four. In that stretch, he is 7-for-13 with two runs and has improved his slash from .333/.404/.422 to .357/.422/.448.
Derrick Loop (RP, Tomateros de Culiacan): 1 IP, perfect, 2 K – Loop’s first outing in 16 days was a dominant one.
Michael Choice (starting DH, Aguilas de Mexicali): 0-3, 1 BB, 2 K – Choice went hitless for the fifth time in his last six games, but ended a two-game on-base drought on Saturday night.
