FORMER INDIAN

Hector Hernandez (SP, Indios de Mayaguez): W (2-0), 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R (both earned), 1 BB, 5 K – Hernandez gave up his first earned runs of the season, but remains perfect in terms of individual victories with two in as many starts.

VAQUEROS DE MONTERIA 9, GIGANTES DE BARRANQUILLA 8

Daniel Aguilar (CF, Gigantes de Barranquilla): 2-4, 1 R, 2 BB, 2 K – Aguilar split his six plate appearances on Saturday evenly between singles, strikeouts, and walks.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE (LVBP)

TIBURONES DE LA GUAIRA 3, CARIBES DE ANZOATEGUI 1 (GAME 1 – 7 INNINGS)

CURRENT INDIAN

FORMER INDIANS

Carlos Rivero (3B, Cardenales de Lara): 3-4, 3 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI – Yes, that statline is from a seven-inning game. Needless to say, Rivero was the Cardenales’ offensive star of the opener of this twi-night doubleheader.

Yonathan Mendoza (LF, Cardenales de Lara): 0-1, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SF – While not as flashy as Rivero’s Game 1 performance, Mendoza was productive at the plate despite the lack of a hit.

CARDENALES DE LARA 12, BRAVOS DE MARGARITA 4 (GAME 2 – 7 INNINGS)

FORMER INDIANS

Yonathan Mendoza (LF, Cardenales de Lara): 1-4, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 BB – Mendoza scored a pair of runs for the first time in three weeks and hit an extra-base hot for the first tome in twelve days in the nightcap. Despite those droughts, his slash line is solid at .302/.397/.491.

Carlos Rivero (3B, Cardenales de Lara): 2-4, 3 RBI, 1 K – Rivero’s pair of three-RBI games nearly doubled his season total (from 7 to 13 – nine of which have come in three-RBI games – the other coming on December 8 against the Aguilas del Zulia).

Luis Oviedo (RP, Cardenales de Lara): 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R (earned), 1 BB, 3 K – Oviedo allowed his first earned run of the season but had his best strikeout night of the Venezuelan campaign.

AGUILAS DEL ZULIA 4, NAVEGANTES DE L MAGALLANES 1 (GAME 1 – 7 INNINGS)

FORMER INDIAN

Ezequiel Carrera (RF, Navegantes del Magallanes): 0-2, 1 BB – After recording ten total bases in his first seven games of the season, Carrera has only amassed one more in his seven full games since.

AGUILAS DEL ZULIA 3, NAVEGANTES DEL MAGALLANES 1 (GAME 2 – 7 INNINGS)

FORMER INDIANS

Ezequiel Carrera (PH, Navegantes del Magallanes): 0-1 – Carrera grounded out in a seventh-inning pinch-hit appearance.

Jose Rodriguez (SP, Navegantes del Magallanes): L (2-2), 2 IP, 5 H, 3 R (2 earned), 1 K – Rodriguez’s first start of the season was also his worst performance. My guess is he stays in the bullpen the rest of the campaign.

DOMINICAN WINTER LEAGUE (LIDOM)

TIGRES DEL LICEY 2, ESTRELLAS ORIENTALES 0

FORMER INDIANS

Sandy Leon (C, Tigres de Licey): 0-3 – Leon only has six hits in 14 games this season, but half of them are home runs (.150 AVG, .225 ISO).

Gabriel Arias (SP, Tigres del Licey): W (2-1), 5 IP, 4 H, 1 K – After coming out of the bullpen for his first five appearances of the season, Arias dominated in his first start of the Dominican campaign.

GIGANTES DEL CIBAO 10, TOROS DEL ESTE 1

FORMER INDIAN

Abraham Almonte (CF, Toros del Este): 0-4 – Almonte’s struggles in LIDOM continued on Saturday. He is now slashing .069/.229/.103 (the 160 isolated plate discipline being the result of six walks in 35 plate appearances).

MEXICAN PACIFIC LEAGUE (LMP)

TOMATEROS DE CULIACAN 10, CHARROS DE JALISCO 5

FORMER INDIANS

Jose Guadalupe Chavez (SS, Tomateros de Culiacan): 2-4, 1 R – Cgavez has three multi-hit games in his last four. In that stretch, he is 7-for-13 with two runs and has improved his slash from .333/.404/.422 to .357/.422/.448.

FORMER INDIAN

Michael Choice (starting DH, Aguilas de Mexicali): 0-3, 1 BB, 2 K – Choice went hitless for the fifth time in his last six games, but ended a two-game on-base drought on Saturday night.
