The postseason in the Dominican League has officially begun. Plus there was plenty of action in all the other leagues as well. The IBI’s Daniel Sherriff takes you Around the Farm.
AUSTRALIAN LEAGUE (ABL)
Shawn Morimando (SP, Canberra Cavalary) – 5.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R/1 ER, 3 BB, 8 SO – The former Indians’ southpaw prospect signed with the Toronto Blue Jays on a minor-league contract back in the 2018 season. He re-upped with Toronto on a Spring Training invite for the 2019 campaign and spent the whole season in the Blue Jays’ organization.
Samad Taylor (2B, Canberra Cavalry) – 2-4, 1 2B – Taylor led off with a double in the third inning but got thrown out on a pop-out in foul territory as he strayed too far off the bag.
PUERTO RICAN LEAGUE (LBPRC)
Joab Gonzalez (SS, RA12) – 2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 SO – Gonzalez got RA12 on the board first on a sac fly to left field in the second inning as part of a three-run frame.
Angel Lopez Alvarez (C, RA12) – 2-4 – Alvarez enjoyed one of his best days in the LBPRC on Sunday.
Jonathan Laureano (1B, RA12) – 1-4, 1 R, 1 SO – Laureano’s single in the second frame helped load the bases to set up the big inning.
VENEZUELAN LEAGUE (LVBP)
Juan Apodaca (C, Tiburones de La Guaira) – 0-3, 2 SO – It was a day to forget for Apodaca as far as his showing at the plate.
Andruw Monasterio (2B, Caribes de Anzoategui) – 1-5, 1 R, 1 SO – Monasterio’s single in the third inning proved to be a huge hit as Tomas Telis doubled him home with two outs.
Niuman Romero (3B, Caribes de Anzoategui) – 1-5, 1 SO – Romero led the game off with a double but got stranded at second becuase his teammates couldn’t bring him home.
Carlos Rivero (3B, Cardenales de Lara) – 1-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 SO – Rivero singled in the second frame but got erased on a double play.
Yonathan Mendoza (LF, Cardenales de Lara) – 1-2, 1 3B, 1 R, BB – Mendoza tripled in the seventh inning with just one out but Cardenales de Lara couldn’t cash in. He dropped a sac bunt in the ninth inning to advance the potential tying run to second base and that proved to be crucial in the comeback victory for Cardenales de Lara.
Henry Martinez (RP, Caribes de Anzoategui) – 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R/ER, 1 BB, 1 SO – Martinez was the pitcher Mendoza tripled off of and was flirting with disaster as he walked Ildemaro Vargas with two outs but escaped by getting a flyout.
Luis Oviedo (RP, Cardenales de Lara) – 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R/ER, 0 BB, 1 SO – The righty retired the first two batters but got in trouble when a fielding error by Cesar Valera at third base. Oviedo stranded him by getting the inning-ending strikeout.
Yapson Gomez (RP, Cardenales de Lara) – 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R/ER, 1 BB, 1 SO – Gomez had runners at the corners with just one out. He managed to get out of it and it proved to be a big deal as Cardenales de Lara walked off in the ninth inning with a three-run rally.
DOMINICAN LEAGUE (LIDOM)
Francisco Perez (RP, Leones del Escogido) – 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R/ER, 0 BB, 1 SO – The southpaw gave up a leadoff single in the seventh inning but got the double play and a strikeout to finish off a clean frame of relief.
Ivan Castillo (3B, Leones del Escogido) – 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 SO – Castillo tied the game with a sacrifice bunt in the third inning.
Edward Paredes (RP, Leones del Escogido) – 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R/ER, 0 BB, 0 SO – After Drew Carlton gave up three runs Paredes was called in with a runner on first base and out out. Paredes got the inning-ending double play to close the book on the sixth frame.
MEXICAN PACIFIC LEAGUE (LMP)
Brennan Bernardino (RP, Charros de Jalisco) – 1.0 IP, 1 SV, 1 H, 0 R/ER, 0 BB, 0 SO – The lefty surrendered a leadoff double to Carlos Manuel Rodriguez but stranded him at second base by retiring the next three batters.
Jose Guadalupe Chavez (SS, Tomateros de Culiacan) – 2-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB – Chavez got Tomateros du Culiacan on the board thanks to a RBI-single in the fifth inning. His second hit came in the ninth to put runners at first and second with no outs in an attempt to jumpstart a rally.
COLOMBIAN LEAGUE (LPB)
Dayan Frias (2B-3B – Vaqueros de Monteria) – 1-4, 1 R, 2 SO – Frias singled to right field and them came around to score thanks to a two-run homer by Elier Hernandez in the seventh inning.
Audy Ciriaco (3B, Caimanes de Barranquilla) – 2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI – Ciraco led off the second frame with a single and scored the game’s first run on a RBI-single by Jhonatan Galvez. The third baseman narrowed the gap to three runs with a RBI-single of his own in the eighth inning.
Jhon Pelufo (RP, Vaqueros de Monteria) – 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R/ER, 0 BB, 0 SO – Pelufo came on in the sixth after the leadoff hitter reached via a fielding error. He erased the leadoff hitter by inducing a double-play ball off the bat of Ciriaco to toss a scoreless inning of relief.
Daniel Aguilar (LF, Gigantes de Barranquilla) – 2-5, 1 R, 1 SO – Aguilar’s single in the fourth kept the line moving for Gigantes de Barranquilla to take a 4-3 lead.
