VENEZUELAN LEAGUE (LVBP)

CURRENT INDIAN

Andruw Monasterio (2B, Caribes de Anzoategui) – 1-3, 1 RBI, 2 SO – Monasterio gave Caribes de Anzoategui an insurance run on a sac fly in the eighth frame.

FORMER INDIANS

Alsis Herrera (SP, Leones del Caracas) – 5.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R/ER, 4 BB, 4 SO – The southpaw got into a mess to start the game as the first two batters reached via base hit to put runners at the corners. The southpaw limited the damage to just one run by getting a double play ball. His only other mistake came on a home run to Niuman Romero in the fifth inning. His night came to an end in the sixth as he departed with runners at first and second with two outs.

Niuman Romero (3B, Caribes de Anzoategui) – 3-3, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB – Romero had a perfect day. First he led off the first with a double then homered in the third to give Caribes de Anzoategui a two-run lead.

Henry Martinez (RP, Caribes de Anzoategui) – 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R/ER, 0 BB, 0 SO – It seems Martinez took care of the eighth without breaking a sweat.

Cardenales de Lara 4, Navegantes del Magallanes 0 – Game 1

FORMER INDIANS

Yonathan Mendoza (LF, Cardenales de Lara – Game 1) – 0-3, 2 SO – 1-2, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI – Mendoza provided the knock-out punch for Cardenales de Lara to claim the first game with a two-run homer to make it a four-run lead in the ninth frame.

Carlos Rivero (3B, Cardenales de Lara – Game 1) – It was an unusually quiet game for Rivero.

Ivan Castillo (2B, Leones del Escogido) – 2-4 – Castilo’s multi-hit performance wasn’t enough to save Leones del Escogido from getting shutout.

Edward Paredes (RP, Leones del Escogido) – 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R/ER, 0 BB, 1 SO – Paredes came on with a runner at second with two outs. He stranded the runner by striking out Robinson Cano.

MEXICAN PACIFIC LEAGUE (LMP)

Jeff Johnson (RP, Sultanes de Monterrey): IP, K, S – Johnson locked down the save in the win with no hiccups, part of four scoreless innings by his team’s bullpen.

COLOMBIAN LEAGUE (LPB)

CURRENT INDIANS

Dayan Frias (PH-2B, Vaqueros de Monteria) – 0-2, 2 SO – Frias came on to pinch-hit for Rafael Romero in the seventh. Unfortunately he struck out in both at-bats.

Daniel Aguilar (CF, Gigantes de Barranquilla) – 1-4, 1 R – Aguilar’s base hit in the seventh inning paved the way for a three-run frame.
