CARIBBEAN SERIES – ROUND ROBIN DAY 2
Niuman Romero (PH-backup 3B, Venezuela): 0-1 – This statline was nearly a carbon copy of Romero’s from Sunday. I say nearly because he lined out yesterday (grounded out on Sunday).
Yapson Gomez (RP, Venezuela): 0.2 IP, 1 H – While not perfect like his Sunday effort, Gomez made it two good relief outings in as many days of the Serie.
Hector Hernandez (SP, Puerto Rico): W (1-0 in Serie, 4-1 overall), 5 IP, 2 H, 4 BB, 5 K – Hernandez’s five scoreless frames set the stage for Puerto Rico’s first Caribbean Series shutout since 2017.
Melky Cabrera (starting RF, Dominican Republic): 2-5, 1 R, 1 RBI – Cabrera has either scored or driven in four of the Aguilas’ nine runs in the 2021 Serie.
Jose Guadalupe Chavez (SS, Mexico): 0-4 – As Good as Chavez’s Sunday was, his Monday was that bad.
The day started with the two Indian-less teams in the Serie facing off. The PROBEIS All-Stars (doing business as the Federales de Chiriqui) defeated the Colombian champs Caimanes de Barranquilla 9-5 to remain undefeated while keeping the South American side winless in Mazatlan.
Dominican Republic – 2-0
Panama – 2-0
Puerto Rico – 1-1
Mexico – 1-1
Venezuela – 0-2
Colombia – 0-2
