Background & Info – 2020 status: Longo is a local product out of Mayfield High School and Ohio University where all he did was hit, and hit some more. Longo hit the ground running in short season ball, Low-A and then in High-A. He hit Double-A in 2019 but took a step back with some swing changes and still produced a solid batting line, but he took a step back from his production at previous stops. Though not big in overall frame, Longo is well built with a defined upper body and strong lower half. He doesn’t have any physical projection remaining in his frame, or age, but he’s athletic and strong throughout that frame.

Offense

Hit: Part of Longo’s swing change in 2019 was closing up his open stance with a narrow base and drawing his hands back. He was already quick the ball but this may have been an attempt to get the ball in the air a little more. It looks like he’s gone back to his more open stance with a moderate leg lift timing mechanism. Very moderate load. Short, quick stroke. Sprays the ball oto all fields. Not a lot of extension in swing but with more of a line drive, contact swing. Good bat control. Struggles against left handers and changeups get him out front easily othertiwse could project for an average overall bat.

Grade: 45

Power: Longo is strong and has average raw power in his frame. His swing change helped him get the ball in the air more but led to more pop ups. Has the strength to drive the ball to the opposite field. Doubles power with his original swing, which looks like he is returning to with the open, wider base.

Grade: 30

Approach: Fairly selective at the plate. Doesn’t often chase out of the zone and can work a walk. Generally not pull heavy. Will offer at pitches he cannot drive and does struggle with offspeed pitches, particularly good changeups.

Grade: 45

Defense

Arm: Gets solid carry on his throws. Playable in all three positions and better in center or left.

Grade: 50

Fielding: Below average reads off the bat and average routes. Looks more comfortable in left field. Defense profiles in the corners only.

Grade: 45

Baserunning

Speed: 4.18-4.25. Gets out of the box well and down the line quickly. Good around the bases with short, quick strides. Slightly above average runner.

Grade: 55

Instincts: Gamer on the bases. Good reads and instincts. Knows how to pick his spots and runs hard every time.

Intangibles: 55

Overall

Longo has the grinder type profile. Puts together good at bats, draws walks, makes contact and limits his strikeouts to an average rate. Doesn’t have much game power despite raw strength. He has above average speed and uses it well on the bases. Strong arm but a fringy defender in the corners. Contact ability and speed land him on the list because there’s a chance it earns him a cup of coffee call up as a fifth outfielder type on someone’s bench.

Grade: 30+
