Triple-A Columbus: Postponed
Double-A Akron: Postponed
High-A: Lansing Lugnuts 5, Lake County Captains 2
Low-A: Lynchburg Hillcats 8, Fredericksburg Nationals 4
Johnathan Rodriguez (Lynchburg RF): 3-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI – Jonathan Rodriguez has his third multi-hit game out of the five he has played so far this season to go along with his second home run. The youngest player taken in the 2017 MLB Draft out of the Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy in Puerto Rico is showing why the Indians selected him in the third round with the torrid stretch he has displayed during his first week in full season A-Ball.
Jhonkensy Noel (Lynchburg 3B/1B): 2-4, 1BB – Jhonkensy Noel has had an extra-base hit in every game he has played so far this season while only striking out twice. 7 of the 11 knocks he has so far have been doubles or home runs and he already has accrued 10 runs and 11 RBIs, so it is safe to say he has been the engine of the lethal Lynchburg lineup to begin the season.
Best of the Rest
Will Brennan (Lake County LF): 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 K – Brennan has a hit in every game so far this season, along with three doubles. It’ll be interesting to see if he sees time as a reliever and outfielder this year since he was a two-way player in college.
Andrew Misiaszek (Lynchburg RP): 2.1 IP, 2 Ks, 1 BB, W, 28 pitches/20 strikes – Misiaszek got the win for Lynchburg today due to two and one-third innings of no-hit ball with two strikeouts. He pounded the strike zone, with 20 of his 28 pitches finding the strike zone.
Andres Melendez (Lynchburg C): 1-2, 1 R, 2 BB – The Venezuelan catcher Andres Melendez is seeing his first action in the Cleveland Indians organization after being brought over in a November 2019 trade that sent Mark Mathias to the Milwaukee Brewers.
Angel Martinez (Lynchburg SS): 1-2, 1 3B, 2 BB – Another switch-hitting shortstop signed as an international free agent by the Indians organization, Martinez skipped the Arizona Rookie League and has gotten on base in every game he has played so far at Low-A Lynchburg. Martinez has more walks than strikeouts to go along with two stolen bases and three extra-base hits in four games so far.
Lenny Torres Jr. (Lynchburg SP): 2.0 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 2 K, 4 BB, 48 pitches/22 strikes – Lenny Torres Jr. made his return to professional baseball after Tommy John Surgery and the cancellation of the 2020 MiLB season. He threw a little under half of his pitches for strikes, but walked four batters and accumulated 3 earned runs in two innings pitched. Torres will be eased into his workload for the 2021 season since it’s his first time pitching competitively in almost three years, and he will probably be a bit rusty too.
