Triple-A – Nashville Sounds 8, Columbus Clippers 2
Double-A – Akron RubberDucks 8, Binghamton Rumble Ponies 7
High-A – West Michigan Whitecaps 4, Lake County Captains 3
Low-A – Delmarva Shorebirds 7, Lynchburg Hillcats 3
Oscar Gonzalez (Akron, RF): 3-5, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K – Gonzalez has been unstoppable in his last three games, each one a three-hit effort. In those games, Oscar is a combined 9-for-14 with five runs scored, two driven in, a home run, a walk, and a strikeout. His full season numbers are impressive, also (.328/.348/.62 slash with six homers and 15 RBI). I doubt this is the last time this season we’ll see him under the Highlights heading in this column.
Will Brennan (Lake County, LF): 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 HBP – Will Brennan continues to do Will Brennan things. He has reached base in all 16 games he has played in this season, with hits in 15 of them (walked twice on May 15 versus the Fort Wayne TinCaps [Padres]). His individual statlines are becoming more spectacular as well, as he now has back-to-back multi-hit games for the first time in the 2021 campaign and multiple total bases in each of his last three played.
BEST OF THE REST
Andres Gimenez (Columbus, SS): 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI – Gimenez accounted for half of the Clippers hits and RBI on Tuesday night.
Gavin Collins (Columbus, C): 2-3, 1 R, 2 2B, 1 RBI – Collins accounted for the other half of each, including two of the capital city nine’s three doubles.
Robert Broom (Columbus, RP): 1.1 IP, 1 H, 3 K – Broom, who has alternated scoreless and multi-run efforts in his last five games, provided the highlight of a rough night on the mound for the #ClipShow.
Tyler Freeman (Akron, SS): 2-4, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 HBP – Freeman is hitting ,500 in his last three games (6-for-12). Unfortunately, he’s also been getting hit a lot recently (HBP in four of his last five games).
Andruw Monasterio (Akron, 2B): 1-4, 2 R, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 K, 1 HBP – After an 0-for-13 start in his first four games, Monasterio has eleven total bases in five games since.
Aaron Pinto (Akron, RP): W (2-0), 3 IP, 1 BB, 6 K – Pinto was dominant in the sixth through eighth innings to pick up his second individual victory of the season.
Nick Mikolajchak (Akron, RP): S (3), 0.1 IP, perfect, 1 K – Mikolajchak needed only four pitches to save the game for the RubberDucks after Alec Wisely’s Double-A debut didn’t go as well as hoped (o.2 IP, 3 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 HR allowed, 1 WP).
Brayan Rocchio (Lake County, 3B): 1-5, 1 K, 2 SB – Rocchio stole both second and third in the seventh to increase his season total to six (in nine attempts).
Nick Gallagher (Lake County, RP): 1 IP, perfect, 1 K – Gallagher’s perfect eighth frame was his fifth scoreless outing in seven this season.
Yainer Diaz (Lynchburg, DH): 2-3, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 SB – Diaz’s multi-hit game was his seventh out of 14 played this season. The multi-run night and the stolen base were his first of each in the 2021 campaign.
Johnathan Rodriguez (Lynchburg, LF): 2-4, 1 2B, 1 K – Rodriguez bounced back from a hitless Sunday to make it three two-hit games in his last four.
Andres Melendez (Lynchburg, C): 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K – While Melendez is hitting .289, his .128 isolated plate discipline (nine walks in twelve games) and .316 isolated power (six doubles and two homers out of eleven hits) boost his OPS to a lofty 1.022.
Xzavion curry (Lynchburg, SP): ND, 4.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R (all earned), 1 BB, 9 K, 1 HR allowed, 1 WP – While his fourth start was something of a “welcome to the pros” experience for Curry, his K:BB ratio remains stratospheric at 32:4.
Trey Benton (Lynchburg, RP): 1 IP, perfect, 2 K – Benton’s perfect eighth was by far the best of his four professional outings so far.
