Triple-A: Nashville Sounds 8, Columbus Clippers 3
Double-A: Akron RubberDucks 7, Binghamton Rumble Ponies 1 (Game 1) ; Akron RubberDucks 7, Binghamton Rumble Ponies 6 (F/11) (Game 2)
High-A: West Michigan White Caps 17, Lake County Captains 5
Low-A: Lynchburg Hillcats vs. Delmarva Shorebirds (Ppd, rain)
Andruw Monasterio (3B/2B, Akron): 2-3, 2B, BB, 3 RBI Game 1; 0-4 BB, Game 2 – Monasterio, who is named Andruw and spelled that way after former Braves star OF, Andruw Jones, who hails from the same country as the Cleveland minor league INF, played both ends of Akron’s double-header. He was responsible for three RBI in the game one win but only worked a walk in game two. There weren’t a ton of big standout performances in Cleveland’s system on Saturday night but driving in three of your teams’s seven runs works.
Eli Lingos (SP, Akron): 5IP, 4H, ER, BB, 4K – Lingos covered five of the seven innings in the first half of Akron’s double header and it’s a good thing he did because the second game went 11 innings and the RubberDucks needed all hands, or wings, on deck.
Richie Palacios (CF, Akron): 2-4, RBI – Palacios only started game one of Akron’s double header but had another good game, bringing his average to .290 and boosting his OPS over .800 as he continues to work almost exclusively in the outfield now.
Trenton Brooks (1B, Akron): 1-2, HR, RBI, 2 BB – Brooks returned after a few game absence that went unexplained but had a homer and two walks in the game one win.
Best of the rest
Oscar Mercado (CF, Columbus): 2-4, 2B, 2 R – Mercado was in a 1-17 slide before his fourth inning double. He’s done well enough to reach base the last few games via a walk or error but hasn’t been hitting much. This is just his third two-hit game all year.
Bobby Bradley (1B, Columbus): 1-4, HR, RBI, K – Bradley celebrated his 25th birthday in pretty standard Bobby Bradley fashion – a homer, his only hit in four at bats, and a strikeout.
Gavin Collins (C, Columbus): 2-4, RBi – Collins hasn’t hit much in Columbus, and he might really only be there by virtue of lack of catching depth in the system by Cleveland. His single in the second inning briefly tied the game at 2-2 before Nashville began to obliterate the Columbus pitching staff in yet another bullpen game while the fourth was the end of the Clippers offensive night.
Tyler Freeman (2B/SS, Akron): 2-5, 2B, R Game 1; 1-4, RBI, R Game 2: Freeman collected three more hits over two games in the double header and extended his hitting streak to eight games. He has two or more hits this season in eight of the 20 games he has played.
Nick Mikolajchak (RP, Akron): 1.1 IP, H, K – After suffering a blown save this past week from pitching in extra innings with a runner on second, Mikolajchak came on in the seventh of the double-header that went extra’s and held the fort down. He now has 17 strikeouts in 10 innings.
Alec Wisely (RP, Akron): IP, 2K, SV – Wisely, a 23 year old 34th round pick in 2019, allowed six runs over 1.1 IP to start his season after getting to Akron due to the RubberDucks needing pitching depth, nailed down the save in the 11th inning of this one with a stellar performance and a long day for everyone involved.
Aaron Pinto (RP, Akron): 2IP, 2H, 2K – Pinto continues to be rock solid as a reliever. While he only throws in the low 90s, his exceptional command has him with a 21/7 K/BB ratio this year in 16.2 innings.
Jose Tena (SS, Lake County): 2-4, 2B, BB, R – Tena has continued to be a reliable force in the middle of the Captains order while a lot of the young hitters on this roster are going through some growing pains as young hitters playing full season ball for the first time. Tena is going through the same thing but has an .806 OPS while hitting in the middle of the order.
Victor Nova (LF, Lake County): 1-2, 2B, RBi, R, 2 BB – Nova, one of those young players who started off good but has struggled recently that I mentioned, had a pretty nice offensive night in a big loss by the Captains. He has worked nearly exclusively in the OF at this point as well. His double snapped an 0-9 skid.
