Tanner Tully (Akron, SP): 5 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K – Tully gave up two singles, hit a batter and allowed a sac fly in the first, but kept the Squirrels off the board for the rest of his start. He allowed another single, HBP and walk in the second, but used a strike out to end the inning with the bases loaded. He allowed another single and walk in the third and another single in the fourth, finally having his first perfect inning in the fifth before being pulled for relief.
Best of the rest
Jordan Luplow (Columbus, LF): 1/2, HR, 2 RBI, BB – In a rehab update, Jordan Luplow has hit his second homer in three games with the Clippers. He walked in the first, then hit his two run shot in the fifth to push the game to within two. He was then pulled from the game for Connor Marabell.
Andres Gimenez (Columbus, SS): 2/4, R, 2 RBI, HBP, 2B – Gimenez started off the Clippers scoring in the third with a two run double that tied the game at two. He was then hit by a pitch in the fifth and scored on Luplow’s homer, adding another single in the seventh to end his night.
Steven Kwan (Akron, CF): 3/4, RBI, BB – Kwan first reached with a walk in the second, then a single in the fourth. He then tripled in the sixth, but the big hit was actually a single in the eighth that scored Ike Freeman to give Akron a two run lead.
Daniel Schneeman (SS, Akron): 2/3, RBI – Schneeman drove in the go ahead run in the eighth with a single and has a really nice batting line in Akron since getting there with an .860 OPS. The consistency has been nice to see.
Clark Scolamiero (LF, Akron): 1/4, HR, 2 RBI – Scolameiro popped a two run homer in the second inning in Akron’s win as he continues to fill in the outfield there.
Tyler Freeman (2B, Akron): 1/4, 2B, 2K – Freeman is still only playing seven innings as he returns but had a double in this one. The two strikeouts were eyebrow raisers but he is still getting his footing back after his shoulder injury.
Gabriel Rodriguez (Lynchburg, 3B): 2/3, BB – Rodriguez singled in the second and the seventh, giving him the only multi hit game for the Hillcats. He then walked in the ninth following walks to Jhonkensy Noel and Julian Escobedo to load the bases, but three consecutive strike outs ended the game with the Hillcats down four.
Petey Halpin (CF, Lynchburg): 1/4, 2B, RBI – Halpin continues to rack up doubles with an aggressive approach at the plate.
Angel Contreras (DSL Indians Blue, 1B): 1/3, R, 3 RBI, 3B, BB – The Indians Red ended up walking off in the ninth, but the majority of their offense came in the fourth from Contraras. He came to the plate with one out and the bases loaded and used a triple to unload them. He then scored the tying run himself on a sac fly.
