Connor Marabell (Columbus, DH): 3-4, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 1 K – Marabell has been feast-or-famine during the month of August. While he has gone hitless in six of his ten games this month, he has multiple hits in each of the other four. In those games, he is 10-for-18 with three doubles and two home runs. This mix of spectacular nights and hitless efforts is maddening because you can see the ceiling, and it’s incredible, but the consistency just isn’t there.
Brayan Rocchio (Akron, SS): 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 K – Rocchio has been dominant lately, hitting four homers during his active seven-game hitting streak. In the RubberDucks’ last two contests, Brayan has driven in seven runs, including all three the Mallards of Main Street scored last night, In addition to providing all of the ‘Ducks offense, Rocchio’s third inning bomb also broke up a no-hitter (the other two runners had reached on Harrisburg starter Cade Cavalli’s fifth and sixth walks of the game).
BEST OF THE REST
Ryan Lavarnway (Columbus, C): 3-5, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K – Lavarnway extended his hitting streak to seven games, including all five since returning from the Olympics, and hit a homer for the third game in a row.
Konnor Pilkington (Akron, SP): ND, 5 IP, 7 H, 2 R (both earned), 2 BB, 7 K, 1 WP, 1 HBP – Pilkington has a 20:6 K:BB ratio in 15 innings through his first three starts in the Indians organization (all for Akron).
George Valera (Lake County, RF): 2-3, 2 R 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K – Valera continued a stellar August (.310/.483/.833 slash line with seven homers, 13 RBI, and a 16:15 K:BB ratio in 14 games).
Joe Naranjo (Lake County, 1B): 2-2, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 BB – Naranjo reached base four times in a seven-inning game. I’d call that a good night.
Kevin Coulter (Lake County, SP): W (7-3), 5 IP, 1 H, 2 R (both earned), 1 BB, 8 K, 1 HR – In eight starts since the beginning of July, Coulter has struck 33 while only walking eight batters.
Jerson Ramirez (Lake County, RP): S (8), 1.1 IP, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 WP – Between the Captains and Low-A Lynchburg, Ramirez has converted 14 of 17 save opportunities in 30 games this season.
Petey Halpin (Lynchburg, LF): 2-4, 2 R, 1 2B, 2 K, 1 HBP – Halpin made it four multi-hit games this month (.357/.419/.464 slash in August) despite being beaned in the sixth (the trainer did come on the field, but Halpin remained in the game).
Micael Ramirez (Lynchburg, C): 1-4, 1 2B, 3 RBI – After going hitless in hs non-complex debut at the plate on August 1, Ramirez has reached safely in nine of his ten full games played since (and he drove in a run on a sac fly in the other).
Johnathan Rodriguez (Lynchburg, RF): 2-4, 2 R, 1 2B, 2 K, 1 SB – Rodriguez’s seventh multi-hit game of August brings his slash line for the month to .400/.434/.600.
Jorge Burgos (ACL, RF): 1-3, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K – Burgos has scored 25 runs in 29 games in his stateside debut season and is slashing .368/.474/.484.
