Angel Genao (DSL Bluie, SS): 2-3, 2 R, 2 3B, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 E – Genao extended his on-base streak to 35 games on Tuesday with his second and third career triples. Angel has reached safely in 41 of his 43 games as a professional, thanks in large part to stellar plate discipline. He has walked 36 times compared to only 29 strikeouts and has a .152 isolated plate discipline. His streak started in a game where he only reached via walk and has been extended on a walk(s) alone eleven times (it also was once extended in its early stages by a hit by pitch). Genao’s fielding, however, is another story. Eleven errors in 37 games (9 in 32 at SS [.924 fielding percentage], 2 in 5 at 2B [.917]) is not a good start for a middle infielder.
BEST OF THE REST
Manuel Mejias (DSL Blue, starting C): 2-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI – Mejias’ first-inning homer opened the scoring and gave the Indians Blue an early 2-0 lead.
Angel Contreras (DSL Blue, 3B): 1-2, 1 K, 2 HBP – While Contreras was certainly happy to reach base three times, he probably would’ve preferred to do so in a less painful manner.
Tomas Reyes (DSL Blue, SP): ND, 5 IP, 1 H, 5 K – Reyes dominated in his return to the DSL after spending most of the 2021 season stateside in the Arizona Complex League. He was mostly a reliever in Goodyear, but made four starts in August, including a pair of solid outings to start the month (combined 10 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, 1 HBP on 8/2 and 8/9).
Angel Mendoza (DSL Red, LF): 1-3, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 SB – Mendoza, the only Indian Red to reach base twice yesterday, has had an excellent rookie season, slashing .339/.425/.516 with eight extra-base hits (5 2B, 3 3B), seven RBI, and four stolen bases in 20 games. He also extended his hitting streak to seven games.
Junior Caminero (DSL Red, DH): 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI – Caminero’s third-inning solo shot to left was his ninth in 41 professional games and improved his run totals to 26 scored and 33 driven in. It was also the entirety of the Indians Red scoring yesterday.
Yorman Gomez (DSL Red, SP): ND, 4 IP, 2 BB, 5 K, 1 HBP – Gomez finished his rookie season strong with a pair of nearly identical statlines. Yorman improved slightly on last Tuesday’s effort vs. Pirates Black by striking out two more batters and not allowing a hit.
