Triple-A – Columbus Clippers 13, Louisville Bats 3

IN MEMORIAM

Matt Loede (Sports Illustrated, Indians Writer): For those of you who haven’t seen the news yet, SI Tribe writer Matt Loede died yesterday of a heart attack.  I only met him in person a few times, but kept in touch with him often online, which was enough to know how awesome of a reporter and a man he was.  To say he will be missed is an understatement.  All of us here at IBI send our condolences to his family and friends.

HIGHLIGHTS

Daniel Johnson (RF): 2-5, 2 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 K, 1 HBP – Johnson, who also had an outfield assist, started the home series of the Final Stretch, the same way he started the road one, with a single and a homer.  The latter of which started the Clippers’ offensive explosion in the bottom of the first by driving in himself and…

Gabriel Arias (SS): 2-5, 3 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB – Arias continued his recent hot streak, which has included a hit in seven of his last eight games – including four of his five Final Stretch appearances so far, with his twelfth homer of the season – a solo shot in the third to make it 3-0.  He also initiated the lone double play turned by the Clippers last night.

Oscar Gonzalez (DH): 3-5, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 2 K – Gonzalez Made it three homers in as many games with this two-homer effort, providing the first runs of both the #ClipShow’s four-run fifth and six-run sixth.

BEST OF THE REST

Ryan Lavarnway (C): 2-4, 2 R, 1 BB – Lavarnway broke out of his post-demotion 1-for-18 slump in a bug way Wednesday night,

Richie Palacios (2B): 2-5, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K – Palacios rebounded from his eleven-game on-base streak ending on Sunday by starting another one.

Connor Marabell (1B): 2-3, 1 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K – Marabell had this monster night from the nine hole, if you’re wondering how last night went for the Columbus offense.

James Karinchak (RP): 1 IP, 1 H, 2 K – Outside of one bad outing (2 ER in 0.1 IP last Friday), Karinchak has been dominant in Triple-A (2 H, 1 BB, and 9 K in 5.2 shutout frames in his other six outings).  He has almost certainly earned himself another shot with the Big Club in 2022.
