So Jose Popup is back in the lineup tonight?  Please no excuses.  Either the thumb is good or it isn’t!  Wouldn’t it be better to let him heal and be ready for the post season?  It doesn’t matter if he is batting left or right, he is still aggravating the injury.  When players try to play through an injury, they end up exacerbating it or creating other problems.  And they end up hurting the team. Now they drop in the 3 hole and watch him try to muscle up.  We don’t need to hear anymore whining about a sore thumb. Either he is healthy enough to play or he isn’t.  If he isn’t, then sit him down.

Wow, we are being no-hit through 5 after being shut out last night.  Against the terrible Royals!

WTF happened to our bats?   It is incredible how bad they have hit for most of the year, with a few moments of sudden and short-lived eptitude on occasions.

Good but not good enough when it matters. Frustrating as a fan to see.

Hopefully, the pitching remains tight bc I  don't expect much from the offense.

Is it time to shake things up? Maybe a call up of Nolan Jones to see if he can provide a spark?  Or just stay the course and hope for these hitters to return their mean? Hopefully just as they go into the playoffs.

If they did call up Jones, where does he play?

That's another factor.

They appear to hate the idea of playing Reyes in the OF for whatever reason.

I thought we saw them turn to develop younger players last yr. Mercado, Luplow, and Bauers eating up time. Only Luplow remains the same role. Mercado sits behind DeShields, Bauers is in LC, maybe never to be seen again and Luplow has scuffled with back injury hangover.

I know Mercado was awful to start the season, but he has looked better since his return from LC.

Everybody seems to be expecting a lineup change today with Lindor going back to leadoff. Maybe that helps.

Also, Alomar criticized the hitters after Wednesday's game for their poor approach to hitting with runners in scoring position (overaggressive, long swings) and after last night's game for abandoning the game plan early.

The Royals showed how it is done. Last night with no score in the third inning and runners on first and second with two out, Hunter Dozier got jammed and used an inside-out swing to loop a single into right field, bringing in the first run and setting up two more runs. Dozier is their cleanup hitter but he didn't try for a three-run homer. Just get a two-out base hit, get one run in, and give the next guy a chance to add on, which he did.

You don't see our cleanup hitter doing that.

IMO, moving Lindor to leadoff is a deference to him, and IMO, won't help.  Hernandez has been one of the best leadoff hitters in the game this year.  Maybe he continues to hit well in a different slot, and the move works.  But, if he doesn't, it will probably be a net neutral move.

This is probably why I'm not a manager, but I'd drop Lindor down to the 6th or 7th slot.

How stupid of Lindor is it to get picked off?  They can barely get a base runner let alone a run.  He is not stealing in that situation with a wet track, no outs and Hernandez up!  And he nearly got picked off right before.  Just stupid baseball.  Bad play is one thing dumb play is another.

In his first appearance in 3 days, Karinchak looked pretty normal.  His pitch mix was closer to typical, with 5 FBs out of 14 total pitches, or 35%.  In his previous outing, Karinchak threw just 1 FB out of a total of 9 pitches, an acknowledgement that hitters have been teeing up the pitch.

The location of Karinchak's FB was also normal, with all of them thrown up in the zone.  The velocity was about a half tick below average @ 94.0 mph.  He "only" had 1 swing-and-miss out of 3 swings, but neither of the other 2 were put in play.  In other words, hitters seemed to be reacting normally to the pitch, tending to swing under the ball.

And, Karinchak's CB was dominant, per usual.  It appeared that Cruz sat on one curve that was mid-height and outside of the zone, but hittable, and he was only able to foul it off.

It's only 1 outing, but I'm encouraged.

What a horrible week for the Indians.  Utterly disastrous.  Stick a fork in them.

JK has to get that fastball up for it to be effective. I think he mainly uses it to set up the hook.

Great to see him mow through the heart of the Twins order with no problems.

The pitching finally cracked. It appears the Twins are getting their mojo back just at the right time while the Sox continue to roll.

When he's right, Karinchak's 2 pitches can stand on their own, although the CB appears to be nearly unhittable and hitters have a BA of .125 with no extra base hits, with a ridiculous whiff% of 56.7%.  Fangraphs and Baseball Prospectus rated his FB @ 80 and 70, respectively.

I'd personally like to see Karinchak vary the location of his FB occasionally, although I agree that it's most effective up in the zone, where his spin creates elite rise and his CB comes out of the same tunnel.

DeShields has got to go.  He is totally lost in CF.  I thought he would be an asset but I was wrong

He would be gone if not for Zimmer, Johnson and Mercado looking even more lost.

This guy blew at least two plays in CF last night and several others recently. Also late in the game he muffed a ball That bounced to him and then lollipopped   it to the infield as if he hadn’t learned his lesson on the earlier play. If the runner had been alert it would have cost another run. He may be a small upgrade at the plate right now but a total deficit defensively

DeShields cost them another run tonight.
