PUERTO RICAN LEAGUE (LBPRC)
Johnathan Rodriguez (PH, Atenienses de Manati): 0-1, 1 R – Rodriguez pinch-hit for Cf Danny Mars in the ninth inning, reached on an error, and later scored.
Raymond Burgos (RP, Atenienses de Manati): 1 IP, perfect, 2 K – Burgos tripled his season strikeout total on Tuesday (one K in his first three innings this season).
Joab Gonzalez (2B, RA12): 1-5, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 SB – Gonzalez’s two RBI matched his season total to date (tweleve games).
Angel Lopez Alvarez (starting DH, RA12); 2-3, 2 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 BB – Alvarez’s two-out, three-run homer in the second inning was his third of the Puerto Rican season (out of seven hits – that’s a .154 ISO with no doubles or triples!).
Jonatahan Laureano (starting 2B, RA12): 2-4, 1 R, 1 K – Lureano was one of four players with multiple hits in RA12’s second victory of the season.
VENEZUELAN LEAGUE (LVBP)
Andruw Monasterio (2B, Caribes de Anzoategui): 1-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 K – Monasterio has a three game hitting streak since Christmas after going hitless in four of his last seven before the holiday break.
Niuman Romero (3B, Caribes de Anzoateui): 0-4 – A rare rough night at the plate for Romero, who went hitless in a game with three or more official at-bats for the first time since December 15 (ending a five-game streak).
Juan Apodaca (C, Tiburones de La Guaira): 1-3, 1 R, 2 BB – Apodaca rebounded from an 0-for-4 Sunday to reach base three times (the fourth time in his last five games played that he has reached base multiple times).
No current or former Indians played in this game. I just thought a 26-3 game was noteworthy in and of itself.
MEXICAN PACIFIC LEAGUE (LMP)
Jose Guadalupe Chavez (SS, Tomateros de Culiacan): 0-2, 1 BB – Chavez still reached base on a rare hitless night thanks to a walk.
Brennan Bernardino (RP, Charros de Jalisco): 2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 WP – Bernardino kept the game scoreless through the ninth and tenth frames, allowing the Charros to take the extra-inning victory in the eleventh.
Roman Pena (RP, Venados de Mazatlan): 0.2 IP, 1 H, 2 R (both earned), 1 BB (intentional), 1 K, 1 WP – Pena’s struggles on the mound this season continued on the penultimate day of the regular season.
Michael Choice (LF-RF, Aguilas de Mexicali): 1-3, 1 R, 1 BB,1 K – Choice ended a five-game hitting drought with a single on Tuesday night.
DOMINICAN WINTER LEAGUE (LIDOM)
With the Estrellas Orientales sweeping the Leones del Escogido in two games in the Mini Playoff to claim the final spot in the Dominican postseason proper, we now have some more details on the shape of said postseason and which current and former Indians from the eliminated sides will be continuing their LIDOM campaigns as refuerzos (reinforcements):
Before I get to the schedule, I would like to note that, due to the shortened season, the round of 4 will be a pair of best-of-seven series instead of traditional Round Robin. The regular season champions Gigantes del Cibao will play the Estrellas, while the second-place Aguilas Cibaenas and third-place Toros del Este will face off in the other series.
Game 1 – January 2
Game 2 – January 3
Game 3 – January 4
Game 4 – January 6
Game 5 – January 7 (if necessary)
Game 6 – January 8 (if necessary)
Game 7 – January 9 (if necessary)
FORMER INDIANS IN REFUERZO DRAFT (NO CURRENT INDIANS SELECTED)
RHP Jairo Asencio – Toros del Este – 3rd round (9th overall)
RHP Gabriel Arias – Gigantes del Cibao – 3rd round (11th overall)
LHP Edward Paredes – Aguilas Cibaenas – 4th round (15th overall)
COLOMBIAN LEAGUE (LPB)
The LPB’s regular season also ended recently. All teams except the last-place Gigantes de Barranquilla will participate in a Round Robin playoff round starting on Saturday (more details and schedule forthcoming when I get them). While current Indians minor league OF Daniel Aguilar was not picked up by any of the three remaining teams as a refuerzo (LPB refurezo process is more akin to free agency than a draft), 2020 Tribe backup catcher Sandy Leon will be joining the Caimanes de Barranquilla from LIDOM’s Tigres del Licey.
